Christmas Craft- DIY Marquee Snowflake

This DIY Christmas craft is probably one of my favorites! It is such an eye catching piece on our mantel and you would never guess it was only $6! Anytime I am in any sort of craft store I am always on a look out for these marquee letters from Heidi Swapp. I’ve used them for tons of different occasions! They are so easy to personalize and even easier to put together. I can usually find them on sale at Micheal’s, JoAnn’s and Hobby Lobby.

The set comes with two separate parts, the main piece (left) and a small insert (right) that surrounds like light bulbs.

I started by painting the main piece Martha Stewart Red Apple. I suggest using a sponge brush. The angle on the brush it makes it much easier to get into all those corners. Once you’ve got the main section done, its time to glitter the inside section. I did this by painting small sections in gold pain and then dumping extra fine gold glitter over. Press down gently with your finger to ensure it sticks on there good and thick. Keep doing this process until the entire thing is glitter-fied.

Once both pieces are dry you will want to insert the inside potion into the main snowflake piece. I’ve noticed it can be a bit tricky to get these in. Sometimes it helps to pull the outer edge away from the inside piece to make room for it to slide in.

Once you’ve got that in, its time to string in the lights. The kit comes with detailed directions on where to start and how to sting the lights around.

After the entire marquee is assembled, I always flip it over to the back and add a little scotch tape to the wires to help secure. Add in your batteries and you are done!
